Comprehensive Implant Care, From Planning to Final Teeth

Dr. Christopher Chung has devoted more than a decade to advanced training in implant, surgical, and reconstructive dentistry, with a particular focus on complex implant treatment and full-arch reconstruction.

By combining surgical experience with restorative dentistry and modern digital technology, Dr. Chung plans implant treatment with the final result in mind-from implant position and bone support to bite, tooth design, esthetics, and long-term function.

His goal is to make complex implant treatment carefully planned, understandable, and as predictable and comfortable as possible for each patient.

Education & Research

Before earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 2010, Dr. Chung completed postgraduate doctoral studies at the University of Iowa in bioinformatics, genetics, and craniofacial development.

While in dental school, he received research scholarships for his work investigating genes associated with non-syndromic cleft lip and palate formation and graduated at the top of his class.

His scientific background continues to shape his approach to dentistry, with an emphasis on careful diagnosis, evidence-based treatment planning, and attention to detail.

Advanced Implant Training & Digital Full-Arch Dentistry

Dr. Chung began comprehensive implant training in 2011 and has continued to expand his surgical education throughout his career.

His advanced training includes implant surgery, bone grafting, lateral and crestal sinus augmentation, guided implant surgery, soft-tissue management, periodontal surgical procedures, and advanced implant reconstruction.

He has also pursued intensive training in full-arch implant dentistry, including Full Arch Masters, live full-arch surgical training, and advanced guided full-arch surgery.

This progression from foundational implant surgery to complex full-arch reconstruction allows Dr. Chung to approach implant treatment from both the surgical and restorative perspectives.

Full-arch implant reconstruction is one of Dr. Chung's primary areas of interest.

These complex treatments require careful coordination of bone anatomy, implant position, bite, restorative space, tooth position, esthetics, and long-term maintenance.

Dr. Chung incorporates modern digital technologies such as 3D CBCT imaging, intraoral scanning, virtual implant planning, guided surgery, digital restorative design, and in-office 3D printing when appropriate.

He remains closely involved throughout the treatment process-from diagnosis and digital planning through implant surgery, provisional teeth, and final restoration-while coordinating with experienced laboratory and digital design partners when needed.

This integrated approach allows the surgical and restorative phases of treatment to be planned together from the beginning.

Treatment Philosophy

Dr. Chung believes successful implant dentistry begins with thoughtful diagnosis and careful planning.

His goal is not simply to place implants, but to develop a treatment plan in which surgery, function, esthetics, and the final restoration are considered together.

He also believes patients should understand their condition and treatment options before making important decisions. Dr. Chung takes time to explain the diagnosis, available alternatives, expected benefits, limitations, and treatment process in clear and straightforward terms.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Dr. Chung

What areas of dentistry does Dr. Chung focus on?

Dr. Chung has a particular focus on implant, surgical, and reconstructive dentistry. His advanced training includes implant placement, bone grafting, sinus augmentation, soft-tissue surgical techniques, guided implant surgery, and full-arch implant reconstruction.

Does Dr. Chung provide full-arch implant treatment?

Yes. Full-arch implant reconstruction is one of Dr. Chung's primary areas of interest. He has completed advanced education in full-arch implant surgery, live surgical training, and guided digital workflows. He is involved throughout the treatment process, from diagnosis and digital planning through implant placement, provisional teeth, and final restoration.

Does Dr. Chung perform both the surgical and restorative phases of implant treatment?

Yes. Dr. Chung is involved in both the surgical and restorative aspects of implant dentistry. Because he plans the treatment with the final restoration in mind, implant position, bite, tooth position, esthetics, and restorative space can be considered before surgery begins. This helps coordinate the surgical and restorative phases as one comprehensive treatment plan rather than as separate procedures.

Why is it important to plan the final teeth before implant surgery?

Dental implants ultimately support the final teeth, so implant placement should be planned around the intended restoration rather than based on bone availability alone. Dr. Chung considers factors such as bite, tooth position, esthetics, restorative space, and long-term function when determining implant position and treatment design.

Does Dr. Chung use digital technology for implant treatment?

Yes. Depending on the case, Dr. Chung may use 3D CBCT imaging, intraoral scanning, virtual implant planning, guided surgery, digital restorative design, and 3D printing. These technologies help coordinate diagnosis, implant placement, and restorative treatment within a comprehensive digital workflow.

What should I expect during an implant consultation?

An implant consultation typically includes a review of your dental and medical history, a clinical examination, appropriate imaging, and a discussion of your concerns and treatment goals. For more complex cases, 3D CBCT imaging and digital scans may be used to evaluate bone anatomy, restorative space, and possible treatment options. Dr. Chung will review the findings with you and explain appropriate treatment alternatives before moving forward.
